The secret to aging well is eating well. Lite n’ Easy dietitian Ashleigh Jones shares why Lite n’ Easy meals are perfect for older Australians.
1. No more cooking for one
“I believe Lite n’ Easy is far more economical than cooking for myself.” Robyn, Lite n’ Easy customer
Eating a nutritious meal is often a struggle for seniors, especially those living alone. There can be a lack of motivation when cooking and preparing meals for one. Some seniors might also not have the necessary cooking skills. While others may not have the mobility to shop and prepare their own meals. Lite n’ Easy provides an affordable, high-quality meal solution designed to promote healthy eating, well-being, and a better quality of life for all seniors. Read more about how Lite n’ Easy helps Robyn spends more time on the things that count here.
2. Plenty of protein
“The same month I celebrated my 90th Birthday I was selected as the gym’s “Member of the Month.” Bruce, Lite n’ Easy customer
As we age, we lose muscle mass. Protein is a critical nutrient as you age as it helps to preserve muscle mass and reduce your risks of infections. Unfortunately, protein is a nutrient that is often lacking in meals for seniors. Having good muscle mass maintains mobility and helps to prevent falls, so it’s important for seniors to aim for 25-30 grams of protein at most meals. Lite n’ Easy meals contain good amounts of protein in our breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks. Start the day with a breakfast containing egg, yogurt, cheese, or ham, and include protein at lunch such as tinned fish, cold meat, or eggs. Add protein-rich snacks such as cheese and biscuits, yogurt, or milo with milk to your diet, which can help to meet your recommended protein targets. Be amazed by Bruce’s story and how he continues to tick off his “Bucket List” into his 90’s!
3. Balance diet
“In the end, I became quite unwell because I was undernourished. Now with Lite n’ Easy, it is a breeze.” Aunty Barb, Home Care Package customer
As individuals age, they can become increasingly frail and are more at risk of malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies. Sadly, undernutrition and malnutrition are increasingly common in the elderly. This can result in increased infection, falls, and hospitalisation. At Lite n’ Easy, every mouthful is as delicious as it is healthy and we take into account the pleasures of eating good food, including flavour and smell. We use the best quality ingredients, with correct servings of protein and fibre, with appropriate levels of sodium and saturated fats. All meals are modelled on the Australian Dietary Guidelines to ensure our meal plans meet the recommended nutrient levels.
4. Convenient

5. Peace of mind
“I tell people I have my own personal chef and send photos of the food to my kids who worry about me not eating properly.” Elizabeth, Lite n’ Easy customer
Lite n’ Easy meals provide peace of mind to friends, family, and caregivers. They can relax knowing that their loved one is receiving nutritious and balanced meals without having to shop, cook and clean for themselves. Having ready meals in the fridge and freezer is a great way for caregivers to encourage healthy eating and is a practical and safe solution. 6. Full variety
“Lite n’ Easy has many menu choices, and I enjoy trying the wide variety of dishes. The food is so tasty. I am now eating more which is helping me in many ways.” Penny, NDIS participant
Meals come in a variety of sizes to suit individual appetites which can vary day to day. For example; a small meal or a soup could be chosen for lunch, or a dinner meal could be eaten at lunchtime with a smaller meal in the evening. There are a variety of meal types and cuisines to choose from to suit all tastes. “A Penny for Your Thoughts”, read more about Penny’s incredible story, you’ll be just as inspired by her, as we are!
7. Stay at home longer
“I am 94 and for the last 20 years, I have ordered Lite n’ Easy on and off when it suited. It ticks all the boxes! The delivery process, easy ordering, meal variety, and wholesome nutrition – it’s all there. If it wasn’t for Lite n’ Easy, I don’t think I would be able to live independently, and this is so important to me.” Shirley – NSW
The number of Australians over 65 years of age is expected to increase by up to 30% by 2027. Lite n’ Easy is equipped to deliver delicious, nutritious meals to customers under the Aged Care Home Care Package program. These meals can be part of a total meal solution or used to supplement other meals of choice. The high quality and affordability can make them very attractive to Home Care Package clients as recipients may be entitled to a split billing arrangement, where the recipient pays just 30% of the Lite n’ Easy order, and the Home Care Package provider pays 70%.
